3-Head Cassette Player Recorders

Are you familiar with 3 head cassette players? If not, read this. A standard cassette player will feature a 2 head system. These 2 heads include an erase head and a record/play head. With the 3-head system, you get an erase head, a record head and a play head. The problem with a 2 head system is that the record/play head can't be optimized for recording and playback since it is used for both. By having the separated record head and play head, you get fully optimized recording and fully optimized playback. Bottom line is, if you want a awesome sounding system, be sure to get a three head deck and nothing else. Another very neat benefit of a 3 head deck is the monitor feature. Since the play head is placed after the record head on the tape path, you are able to listen to the recording as it is being recorded, saving you a lot of time later.
